Porn Free Uganda: A Campaign That Was On Kampala Streets -Godfrey Kuteesa Shares

Starting Monday the 8th of August to Saturday the 13th, a team of energetic youth together with the Founder of The Godfrey K. U. T. E. E. S. A Foundation took to all the major roundabouts and city junctions in and around Kampala City with a message against PORNOGRAPHY. Godfrey Kuteesa speaking to us said, “The aim of this campaign was not to take anyone on a guilt-trip but to raise awareness in our society about the hidden danger brought forth in our society by the PORN industry.” A former pornography addict himself, Godfrey Kuteesa further said that, the society has to rise up and protect this vulnerable generation.

In all of this situation, who do you think is at the greatest risk? Is it not our son’s and daughters (for those who are parents), brothers and sisters (for everyone) or, the one who might be reading this right now. Speaking so passionately about the issue, Godfrey Kuteesa told us the obvious fact that many men are struggling with Pornography and that this is causing more and more families to breakdown. “In April 06, 2013 in a worldwide MENS’ Summit held in South Africa, 70% of Christian Men admitted to struggling with pornography in their daily lives. Think about that number.”

Talking to us in a post-campaign chat, Godfrey Kuteesa confirmed that the campaign met resistance from a great number of people who hurled insults at them and told them that there were better things to talk about. For a situation that Godfrey Kuteesa said stands at 71% of primary school-going children admittedly watching Porn but their parents don’t believe & don’t know, one can only imagine the statistics on the general population. If this vice will be reduced, it needs to be nipped in the bud. Of course it was not all challenging, a group of concerned parents, mostly mothers, showed overwhelming support, and some of those who were lucky enough to encounter the team in action on the streets gave a thumbs up.

What Godfrey Kuteesa is most excited about is the fact that the conversation was initiated. According to him, many people are suffering silently. He said, “Pornography has become a Public Health Crisis.” However, in his dealings with communities and churches, whenever the vice is mentioned, many direct his attention to the youth, forgetting that it cuts across to both the young and old and should be dealt with in that light.
