With a lot of excitement, as promised by the HIT Awards team during a glamorous inaugural edition, the second event was announced and nominations took place to involve fans and this was reviewed by the HIT Awards Academy. Congratulations to all the nominees. You are all making a huge impact in the industry and seven spheres of influence. We will share the list later. There is something we observed for a while as soon as the list was released.
First of all, it appears that many people have not fully understood that HIT Awards is not your typical music award. It is simply not a music-only-award. Their vision as shared on our platform when they came to the scene is to award those who are succeeding in the seven spheres of influence. In a statement from the team, “The HIT Awards therefore focus on the seven spheres of life with awards focusing on Arts & Entertainment, Business, Philanthropy, the church, media, leadership and lifetime achievement.” Please note this to avoid further misunderstandings. The team clearly stated their vision. It is apparent however, that since many music-only-awards in the Gospel fraternity is so purely executed that many hoped that HIT Awards would bridge that gap and be a music award. In this situation, many of you are asking the award to be what it was not created to be. Pray that perhaps we will soon have an authentic music-only award.
It has been observed that since the release of the nominees as seen below, some are wondering about the uneven nature of numbering with some categories having only two nominees, while some going up to 5 nominees. Well, for yours and our own information, HIT Awards is setting the bar higher. The two nominees in the female artiste category are the only ones the very ethical Academy saw worthy of the nomination. Still, we might ask you the observer to drop names of those you think deserved to be added to the list. This is not to say that the awards team will do according to your liking, the decision is independent and final.
As with any award nominee list and winners, there is bound to be questions arising from industry players, fans and musicians. Honestly, we can only have few nominees. The HIT Awards nomination team communicated in the press release announcing the call-for-nominations that they reserve the right to make the final decision on who gets nominated. The question then to ask is, if you have queries, and suggestions, where do you go. Feel free to inquire for clarity on their social media pages and be courteous about it.
From our own side, we suggest that the team focuses a bit more on communicating their vision so that what they understand the award to be and what the public assumes it to be are not two totally different things. Also, in the event that there are changes in categorizations for the following editions, this needs to be communicated to the public so that they are not left wondering what is happening. For example, a few categories like, Rising Star, Fine Artist of the year, Comedian of the year, Dance Group of the year, Business of the year, and Philanthropic personality of the year have been omitted.
With those many words, we rest our case and continue to celebrate the people who have been nominated in the prestigious HIT Awards.
Here they are.
