If you followed our live updates on Twitter from Kampala Parents School where Mavuno Church Kampala held its 5th Anniversary celebrations dubbed Mavuno Retro, then you know we were excited to celebrate with the body of Christ. We arrived when Pastor Anthony Njoroge who is popular known as Pastor Njoroh joined the worship team that led so ably. He went on to make all the Mavuno Church ‘first timers’ feel at home and share their experiences with those next to them. Everyone ended up sharing their Mavuno experience.
The sermon focused on the fact that God can use ordinary people to do extraordinary things. “God has a reputation of picking the most unlikely candidates & people. For example, Rahab the prostitute, David an adulterer etc.” He continued to teach that, “When God uses unlikely people, no one is confused about who is at work.”
After his sermon there was a dance competition between Country Lights (Ug), Vision with Hope (Ug), Baraka (Ug) and Kenya’s Altarmin Dance Crew. In a face-off that saw Vision with hope dropped out by the public, then followed by Country Lights to leave the two dance groups in a finale, we were thrilled by their performances. After a heated battle, Baraka was pronounced winners by the audience by a thin margin.
Ugandan singer popular among urban Gospel music lovers for his Napenzi single, Mike O, was the first performer. A hype session by Sawqy Dis was a great addition and that by Hype Gudah who was joined on the stage by Hope Kid, was another great one. The audince went crazy. Hope Kid’s performance was hyped up by his stage energy and Hype Gudah as well as Altarmin Dance Crew and Sawqy Dis.
Gospel Rapper Ruyonga who has a concert, one on 6th August at Imperial Royale and another on 8th at Makerere Main sports ground drove the youth into a frenzy with each performance. He performed Tutuuse, RRUU, Ride and Muhulire. It left many yearning for his concert. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation by Mavuno Church Kampala in recognition of his Ministry with the church during the five years. Holy Keane, Isaac Ruuci of Limit X and Band Aroma were the other musicians honored with certificates.
There was a break before Holy Keane Amooti got onto the stage with a group of young energetic dancers. We know it will be a terrible fail for us to try to express to you the amount of excitement his performance brought. He too will be holding a concert on August 23 at Uganda Museum.
There was so much activity at Mavuno Retro but it had the family-fun-day feel as many sat in the pavilion at the extreme end of the Kampala Parents School field and others stood in clusters chatting away and some were even playing soccer. There was also bouncing castles for the children to enjoy. The main artistes for the day Mag 44 and Pompi all did amazingly. Many sung along to all their songs when they performed. It was a great event. It was a bit laid-back too.
We thank God for what Mavuno Church Kampala is doing. In the words of Pastor Anthony Njoroge, “”I prophecy that the latter glory of Mavuno Church Kampala shall be greater than the former.”
