The inaugural social media Awards Africa awarding ceremony took place on the night of the 24th of January. The Social Media Awards Africa saw States House Uganda being nominated in the category of Best Use of social media by Government or Public sector, Network Of Africa Youths For Development and The Red Cross Uganda both for Best Use of social media by Non – profit Organization, Finance Trust Bank (Best Use of social Media by Financial Institution), BigeEye (Brand Of The Year), The Independent (Best Rated Platform), Barefootlaw (Facebook Page Of The Year), @AndrewMwenda (Twitter Handle Of The Year), and Andrew Mwenda (Influencer Of The Year).
We were particularly happy that Uganda did not come back empty-handed in what is the Nigeria and Kenya dominated field with South Africa and Uganda following in third and fourth position with the most nominees. Uganda which has seen a recent increase and is showing signs of having more Twitter users can not at this moment rival South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. It is perhaps no wonder that we managed to scoop an award to Barefootlaw for their role on the more popular Facebook social media platform in Uganda.
It was also a bit uncomfortable for us being a more blogging platform as seen by our Twitter and wordpress activity that no Ugandan platform or person was nominated in the blogging category. That is about to change, given the fact that Uganda’s very own Social Media Awards season has commenced and you can nominate Uganda Gospel Life Blog.
